Barite w/ Quartz Crystals Specimen ~ Unmarked Mine New Mexico

Location Magdalena area NM

Weight 4.6 OZ

Barite and quartz from New Mexico are often found together,

particularly in areas like the Hansonburg district and the Magdalena district,

where they are associated with fluorite and lead-zinc deposits. Barite,

a dense, white to colorless mineral (BaSO\({}_{4}\)), is often found

as bladed crystals on a matrix of colorless or clear quartz.

The combination is commercially significant, though New Mexico's production is modest compared

to national levels.
