Elbaite is a lithium-based variety of tourmaline, known for its wide range of colors,

often found in complex, zoned crystals like watermelon tourmaline.

It belongs to the silicate mineral group, named after the island of Elba

in Italy where it was first discovered. Elbaite forms in granitic pegmatites and

displays a trigonal crystal system with a hardness of 7.0-7.5 on the Mohs scale.
