silicate with a formula of KCa₄(Si₈O₂₀)(F,OH)•8H₂O. It is characterized by

vitreous to pearly luster, a hardness of 4.5 to 5 on the Mohs scale, and a perfect

basal cleavage. Found in vesicles in volcanic rocks such as basalt, it typically forms large,

well-developed crystals in varied colors, with green varieties from India

being particularly prized by collectors.
