belonging to the spinel group, with a chemical formula of Mn²⁺Mn³⁺₂O₄.

t forms tetragonal crystals and has a Mohs hardness of 5.5 and a specific

gravity of 4.8. Found in high-temperature hydrothermal veins and metamorphic rocks,

it is known for its brittle nature, sub-metallic to resinous luster, black

and dark reddish-brown streak.
