Orange ferruginous quartz and quartzite are both natural silicon dioxide

rocks colored orange by iron oxide, but differ in their formation and structure.

Ferruginous quartz refers to a variety of quartz crystals with orange to

red colors from iron inclusions like hematite or limonite, which can be

either within the crystal or on its surface. Ferruginous quartzite,

a type of sandstone, is a more metamorphosed, harder rock where

the quartz grains are cemented together by hematite, resulting in a dark,

often blood-red color and a brittle structure.
